More about the Limited Edition Prints
Pamela writes...
Rose Madame Alfred Carriere and Forget-me-nots
Rose Madame Alfred Carriere is a classic old fashioned rose that is the
first to come into flower by my front door. It is the herald of summer
and, placed in a mug with a lacy froth of forget-me-nots framing the roses'
delicate bulk, it is a wonderful subject.
This is a very faithful reproduction which clearly shows you each
stroke of colour.
Creamware Basket of Cherries and Preserves
This painting features in 'The Art of Pamela Kay' by Michael Spender,
published in 1993 by David and Charles.
The centifolia rose has a short flowering period, and doesn't repeat, so it has to be painted when it is ready, not you.
This glass of old fashioned centifolias and daisies are arranged with
a Leeds Creamware pierced dish, full of cherries. The colour range is limited, the rich reds complemented by a great variety of neutral warm and cool greys.
Glass Jug of Flowers and a Bowl
The flowers in this satisfyingly globular glass jug are from my garden.
A collection of a Japanese Anemone, Violas and Michelmas Daisies are the accompaniment for a complex late summer rose. This small
still life is placed on a shelf together with a very delicate porcelain
bowl that has water in it.
The idea of painting water in a bowl was inspired by a small still
life 'Cup of Water and a Rose on a Silver Plate' 1627-30 by the Master of Spanish painting, Juan De Zurbaran, which is in the collection of The National Gallery, London.
The Glass and a Jug of Roses
This watercolour is featured in 'The Art of Pamela Kay' by Michael Spender,
published in 1993 by David and Charles. A companion to Glass Jug of Flowers and a Bowl, the still life features a small late Victorian jug and a narrow crystal glass, containing centifolia roses.
The Garden Late Summer
Every year the garden is different. Some plants thrive, some barely
survive. The year this painting was produced was one of the best. Nasturtiums, poppies, petunias, hollyhocks and lilies ran riot. The light was strong yet clearly moving towards Autumn.
