Glass Jug of Flowers and a Bowl
The flowers in this satisfyingly globular glass jug are from my garden. A collection of a Japanese Anemone, Violas and Michelmas Daisies are the accompaniment for a complex late summer rose. This small still life is placed on a shelf together with a very delicate porcelain bowl that has water in it. The idea of painting water in a bowl was inspired by a small still life ‘Cup of Water and a Rose on a Silver Plate’ 1627-30 by the Master of Spanish painting, Juan De Zurbaran, which is in the collection of The National Gallery, London.
